The Big Enterprise Architecture Questions

After 10 years working as an architect I’ve learned a thing or two but am still puzzled by the blinkers we insist in wearing which prevent many organizations from providing good service and creating efficient systems.

The issues all seem to stem from our inability to address problems by asking the right questions and looking for the “best” answers:

  1. Why is the business and IT so disconnected?
  2. Why does it take us so long to recognize the good behaviours and good architecture?
  3. Why do organizations repeat the same IT mistakes?
  4. How can we find the balance between the demands of fire fighting and long-term vision?

I believe that the answers are actually based on the implicit and explicit motivations that organizations create for IT and the business.
